Jill May is a lifelong nonprofit professional, dedicated to helping make her community a better place to live, work and play for all. In October of 2016, Jill moved from Grand Rapids to Traverse City, where she first served as a Development Consultant for Venture North, successfully helping to build the organization’s lending capital. In October of 2017, Jill’s role expanded and now serves in a newly created position as the Chamber’s Director of Investor Relations. In this role, Jill helps to build and strengthen the Chamber’s network of high level investors through enhanced outreach, engagement and connection.
Jill has nearly 20 years of experience in fund raising, with an emphasis on corporate relations and economic development. Prior to arriving in Traverse City, Jill served as a Program Officer for the Frey Foundation, where she worked to develop opportunities for effective grantmaking in west and northwest Michigan. Jill has held fund development positions at The Right Place, the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, the American Cancer Society and Catholic Charities of West Michigan.
Jill earned a master’s degree in public and nonprofit administration from Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communications from Olivet College. In 2016, Jill was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus by GVSU, and has been nominated for the Young Athena Award and Young Nonprofit Professional of the Year Award. Jill currently serves on the boards of Impact 100 Traverse City, a field of interest fund at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, and a GVSU Alumni Chapter.
