Steve Perdue


Grand Traverse Industries

Born in Lansing, Michigan and raised in Detroit, MI, Jerome, Idaho, and San Jose, California.

Steve started in the vocational rehabilitation business in a work study job at Hope Rehabilitation Services in San Jose, California while he was an undergraduate at San Jose State University.  In addition to a BA in History he has a Graduate degree in Education. In the 1970s he helped start two Community Rehabilitation businesses in Lewiston and Coeur D’Alene, Idaho respectively. In 1980 he took the position of President/CEO at Grand Traverse Industries where he is still employed.  Grand Traverse Industries provides employment and training for persons with significant disabilities in the ten counties of Northwestern Lower Michigan.

During his career Steve has been very active in related organizations and trade association work.  Steve was President of Idaho Special Olympics for two years and Idaho Special Olympics’ Head Coach for the 1977 International Special Olympics games.  Steve has served as President of both the Idaho and Michigan State Trade Associations.   Steve served as President of the National trade association from 2001 through 2005 and currently is on the Board.  He also currently serves on the Board of SourceAmerica, a national nonprofit that creates job opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Steve has been Chairman of the TC Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business Council, twice a member of the Board of Directors of the TC Area Chamber of Commerce and Board Chairman of the Traverse Bay Economic Development Corporation.  On a personal note, Steve has been married 44 years, has six grown children, 18 grandchildren, is an avid hockey fan and player, but skates poorly and has a weak slap shot.
