Whitney Waara

Executive Director

Whitney Waara joined the Chamber as Executive Director in 2018, bringing an extensive background in operational management, business consulting and public broadcasting.

Whitney was the Vice President for Operations at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in Washington, DC before moving to the Traverse City area in 2014. She most recently lead the operations of a non-profit program serving college campuses with content and training designed to improve civic dialogue and awareness.

Whitney earned an MBA in marketing from the Kent State University School of Management, and holds an undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College where she studied business and economics.  She launched her professional career in the Washington, DC are where she worked as a consultant in IT and international development.  She also owned and operated a USDA certified organic produce farm.

Waara serves on the Grand Traverse County Parks & Recreation Commission and as a Community Advisory Board member and volunteer at Interlochen Public Radio.  She and her husband, Sam Augusta, have three sons and live on Old Mission Peninsula.
